Human just love to talk about others. Gossip. Anything contains of negative issues. We just love to talk about it. Enjoy to boast about it. Hate to say, it’s a woman’s favorite subject. Jarang lelaki punya hobi seperti ini. Ya. Jarang. Namun ada. Belakangan aku menikmatinya. These are the triggers.
“Eh, ada berita baru.”
“Lu tau gak si X.”
“Katanya sih dia emang gitu orangnya.”
And, so on. You may make your own verses. Oh, gosh.
Dulu, aku pernah curiga dengan mereka. Mereka yang sering tertawa denganku. Mereka yang kutemui hampir setiap hari. Apa mereka ikut ngomongin gw? Apa mereka juga ngomongin gw di belakang? Dan menyakitkan jika kecurigaan itu terbukti. The one who often laughs with you is the one who also talks behind your back. It hurts.
And now, I become those whom I usually call “Backstabbers“. What a guilt that strikes me back. Mulut bergerak tanpa kekang. Perkataan meluncur tanpa rem. Aku lupa akan luka itu. Aku menoreh luka mereka diam-diam.
Aku gak ngerti. Kita tuh gampang banget nget nget kepancing buat ngomongin kejelekan orang (mikir aja kita tuh siapa). It’s like our nature. Automatic. Our great tendencies to look at others’ flaws. Tidak mudah mata ini melihat apa yang baik. Bukan begitu? We’re so attracted with those crappy infotainment shows. Scandalicious story appeases us. One America drama series about bunch of girls gosipping and backstabbing each others emphasizes the reality of this ugly habit. We’re easily to stuck with others’ fault. Kita seperti kompor hidup. Kita senang menambahkan bumbu yang tak perlu. And while we’re doing these, our self-reflection mirrors become so blur. Our eyes got blocked. Entah terhalang oleh apa. Self-righteousness? Jealousy? Hatred? The thought of we’re-better-than-the-one-we’re-being-talked-about? You name it. You know the dirt of your own mind, do you? Seperti kata Yohan Candawasa, kita lebih sering melihat apa yang ada di luar diri kita. Menilainya sesuka hati kita. And, we rarely looking deep into our own heart. Kita sibuk dengan selumbar di mata orang lain. Yet, we hardly see that there’s a big wooden block in our own eyes. What a dirty heart. Filthy mouth. Uncontrollable tongue. The nature of this sinful creature.
You’re right, God. Tongue is a fire. Small organ which boasts great things. None of us can claim as a tongue-tamer. With it we bless You. And at another chance, we curse the men, who are made in the image of You.
O forgive me, Lord. I was enjoying this sin. Being so numb with Your alert. Steer my tongue everytime I speak out my words. Let me just open my ears widely, hear Your warning signs and hit the brake.
Sebab kita semua bersalah dalam banyak hal; barangsiapa tidak bersalah dalam perkataannya, ia adalah orang sempurna, yang dapat juga mengendalikan seluruh tubuhnya. Yakobus 3:2.
